I posted a pep talk video back in April discussing how some of the very goals I wrote in my journal years ago have manifested in my life. Acts such as blogging, vlogging, and going to school were once just ideas that have now become some of my every day activities.
But one thing I didn’t tell you was that after I read my old entries, I wrote a letter to my younger self. I have to say that it was one of the dopest reflections ever. I talked to the Vannesia in college, the Vannesia who was at her first job, the Vannesia who experienced being used and hurt, the Vannesia who had a smart remark for every comment (okay, some things never change), and the Vannesia who had some of the sweetest victories. Because I knew her, I spoke directly to her. I knew her fears and her feats. I couldn’t hide from her then or me now.
The blind spots I once had were so clear now. I was able to see how once isolated puzzle pieces perfectly fit into the less distorted picture today. There’s still plenty of work to put in, but it made me excited about the future and at ease knowing that it all comes together.
I encourage you to give it a try some time this week. It doesn’t have to be deep. I’ll start you off:
Dear _______________ (your name),
I appreciate you because….
Now let me tell you how all this plays out….
